Some female teachers who have been made unemployed by the Taliban in Balkh express concern about severe poverty and unemployment.
These teachers told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, January 14, that due to extreme poverty, they have been forced to turn to street vending despite Taliban threats.
One of these teachers, describing her difficult living conditions, says that due to severe cold and Taliban pressure, she is unable to provide a single morsel of bread for her children daily.
She adds that the situation of all women, especially those who have been dismissed from work, is dire in this province.
The Taliban have recently reduced hundreds of teaching positions, and among them, female teachers have been targeted more.
Previously, the International Committee of the Red Cross had announced that approximately 4.7 million people in Afghanistan face severe hunger.
