Pakistan Seeks Taliban Leadership’s Help Against TTP

Hasht-E Subh Hasht-E Subh
4 February 2023 - Solar Hijri Date: 1401/11/15 [t_time:1675500636]

Five days after the deadly suicide blast at a mosque in the Peshawar Police Lines, the government of Pakistan blamed the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for the carnage and requested the intervention of Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Afghan Taliban, to curb the TTP.

The Express Tribune, a Pakistani media outlet, reported on Friday that the leadership of the Pakistani government, including the civil and military sectors, held a meeting chaired by the country’s prime minister to review the deadly suicide blast last week in Peshawar in which more than 100 people, mostly policemen, were killed.

In this meeting, it was said that it was possible that the Peshawar attack masterminds were in Afghanistan and the government would raise the issue with the neighboring country.

Pakistani officials have said in the meeting that the TTP, indeed, carried out the attack but because of fear of backlash from the Afghan Taliban, it did not own it, publicly.

It was also decided to take up the matter with the interim Afghan government at the highest level, with a clear message that Pakistan would no longer tolerate cross-border terrorism.

In this meeting, the Afghan Taliban were quoted as saying that they are incapable of confronting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban

After the deadly suicide blast at a mosque in Peshawar, the Pakistani government has rolled up its sleeves to suppress the TTP.
