Sources say that Pakistani police arrested three Afghan journalists around 1 AM last night.

These sources, speaking to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, said that the journalists include Zikrullah Yazdani, Ashiqullah Jalalzoi, and Atiqullah Rahimi, who were arrested in the Faisal Town area of Islamabad.

Previously, the Afghan Media Support Organization (AMSO) had also expressed concern about the detention of Afghan journalists in Pakistan.

AMSO emphasized that the suspension of visa extensions and the detention of Afghan refugees, including journalists, have placed them in difficult, uncertain, and fearful conditions.

The organization has called on all international and humanitarian institutions to pressure Pakistan to ensure the immediate security of Afghan journalists and prevent their detention and forced deportation.

This comes as, following the Taliban’s return to power, a large number of journalists fled Afghanistan and sought refuge in other countries, including Pakistan, due to fear of Taliban retaliation and to preserve their lives. They now face the threat of forced deportation.
