Residents of Parwan province report an increase in armed robberies in the region. According to them, most of these armed robberies are carried out using the name and military equipment of the Taliban. The residents of the province accuse the Taliban of inadequacy in providing security, stating that the group itself is involved in the insecurity of the province. They emphasize that just in the past week, several cases of robbery using the name and military equipment of the Taliban have occurred in various parts of Parwan province, particularly in the Jabal Saraj district of this province. The residents added that due to the rise in armed robberies, they do not have proper “sleep” during the night. Nevertheless, they demand security from the Taliban.
Recent findings from the Hasht-e Subh Daily reveal that in just one week, an armed robbery occurred in Jabal Saraj district and several cases took place in various parts of Parwan province. Sources speaking to the Hasht-e Subh Daily indicate that armed thieves, using the name and military equipment of the Taliban, looted jewelry and cash from a family in this province.
An anonymous source reported that a group of militarily disguised thieves attacked the house of Mubeen Qassab on Wednesday night, August 16. Mubeen Qassab is a resident of the village of Miana Gozar in the Jabal Saraj district. The thieves made off with 600,000 Afghanis in cash, a gold set, several mobile sets, and other valuable items from the family. According to the source, the armed robbers, using the name of the Taliban, tied up the family members’ hands and then looted their belongings.
The source stated, “During the night, the thieves knocked on the door one by one, claiming to be forces of the Islamic Emirate of the Taliban, and said they had come for an operation. When the door was opened, they stormed into the house, locked the family members in a room with their hands tied, and physically assaulted the men while threatening to kill them.” The source added, “Subsequently, the women, fearing for the lives of their men, handed over 600,000 Afghanis in cash, which was their shop’s money, along with their bridal gold worth around 500,000 to 600,000 Afghanis to the thieves.”
Meanwhile, residents from the outskirts of Parwan province’s center report an increase in armed robberies in parts of Charikar City, the center of this province. Ahmad (pseudonym), a resident of the Moalemeen Township in Charikar City, states that in the past week, properties of at least two families in the first security division of this province have been looted. Ahmad adds, “From our house, a few streets uphill known as the end of Moalemeen Township, armed thieves entered two houses during the night, using the name and military equipment of the Taliban, and took away all the belongings of those families.”
Parwan province residents, while considering the Taliban incapable of ensuring security, assert that armed robberies in this province are “impossible” without the involvement of the group’s militants. Sabghatullah, a resident of Parwan province, told the Hasht-e Subh Daily, “It’s impossible for armed robberies to happen without the Taliban’s involvement, as they have collected all the people’s weapons. So, where do these armed individuals come from? The Taliban lack the ability to provide people’s security; they only know war.”
Parwan province residents state that due to the increase in armed robberies, they do not get proper sleep during the night. However, they demand security to be ensured. Sohrab, a resident of Jabal Saraj district, said, “For some time now, we haven’t been able to sleep peacefully at night. We are constantly expecting thieves to come. The Taliban talk about security repeatedly, but what kind of security?”
About five months ago, armed thieves, using the name and military equipment of the Taliban, looted the properties of several residential houses in the center of the province, and districts of Jabal Saraj and Bagram in Parwan province. These individuals, dressed as Taliban militants, had set up a checkpoint in the Matak region of Parwan province and looted belongings from nearly 10 vehicles’ occupants.
Earlier in the last year, armed thieves in military disguise entered a residential house in the Golbahar area of Jabal Saraj district. After looting the family’s belongings, they killed their young son. The victim was named Yasir, a second-year student in the Law and Political Science department at Parwan University.
However, the Taliban have consistently denied any involvement of their members in armed robberies.
It’s worth mentioning that with the Taliban’s control over the country, the group had claimed that criminal activities would significantly decrease. Contrary to this claim, criminal incidents, including in the capital city, continue to rise with each passing day.
