Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov has accused the European Union and Ukraine of betting on prolonging and even escalating the conflict.
The TASS news agency reported on Sunday, July 5, that Yury Ushakov made the remarks during a press briefing following a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
According to the report, Ushakov said that Putin noted in his call with his American counterpart that Kyiv and European capitals are acting based on a misunderstanding of the situation.
“Kyiv and its European sponsors put on protraction and even escalation of the conflict, on terrorism against the civilian population,” Ushakov said.
The Russia–Ukraine war began four years ago with Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukrainian territory and is still ongoing.
Russia claims that extensive financial and military support from the European Union to Ukraine has contributed to the escalation and expansion of the war.
