Local Taliban officials in Takhar have reported that five individuals have been arrested in the province for playing music.
Nizamuddin Umair, the spokesperson for the Taliban’s provincial police command in Takhar, stated on Saturday, 21 June 2025, that these individuals are residents of Taloqan, the capital of Takhar.
According to Umair, the individuals were arrested while playing music in a residential house in the sixth district of old Taloqan city.
The Taliban official added that criminal cases have been filed against these individuals.
This comes as the Taliban, since regaining control of Afghanistan, have declared listening to and playing music as forbidden, arresting and torturing those involved.
