Local sources in Herat province report that the Taliban have closed women’s tailoring shops in the center of the province.
Sources informed Hasht-e Subh that Taliban fighters stormed the markets of Herat City on Wednesday morning, November 22, and closed all tailoring shops sewing women’s clothing.
According to sources, the Taliban had warned these tailors a week ago to shut down their shops.
Sources add that the Taliban closed these tailoring shops because male tailors were involved in sewing women’s clothing.
As of now, the Taliban have not made any statements regarding this matter.
Previously, the Taliban also closed women’s tailoring shops in Mazar-i-Sharif city.
This development occurs at a time when, following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, women’s employment opportunities have been severely restricted, and international organizations have reported a 32% reduction in small businesses owned by women.
