Kabul – The United States and the Taliban will start negotiations, reported Agence France-Presse.
The talks will begin next week and focus on counterterrorism and the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, AFP reported today Wednesday, November 24.
The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West will lead the delegation, according to AFP quoted Ned Price, the US spokesman.
The two sides would also discuss vital national interests that include counter-terrorism operations against ISKP and al-Qaeda, humanitarian aid, Afghanistan’s economic problems, and the safe passage of US citizens from Afghanistan and Afghans working for the United States, AFP added.
For the first time, the US officials and the Taliban interim government met on October 9 in Doha, the capital of Qatar since the takeover.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
