Various United Nations agencies in Afghanistan have announced the launch of a project to support the relocation of returning migrants and internally displaced persons in Kunduz and Baghlan provinces.
The International Organization for Migration stated on Monday, 28 July 2025, in a report that the project is being implemented through collaboration between the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, funded by the Afghanistan Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
According to the report, an allocation of $15.8 million from the Afghanistan Multi-Donor Trust Fund, along with additional contributions from the agencies, brings the total project budget to $23.01 million.
The United Nations emphasized that the project will address immediate needs, including shelter, essential services, and infrastructure resilient to natural disasters.
The project has been launched amid the ongoing large-scale deportation of Afghanistan citizens from Iran and Pakistan.
