UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that polio has no cure but is preventable, and that every child must be protected against the disease.

The organization reported on Sunday, June 7, that polio vaccination programs in Herat are ongoing with the aim of reaching all children, particularly those in remote areas.

UNICEF added that with the support of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief), vaccinators are working door-to-door across Herat to protect children with two drops of the polio vaccine.

UNICEF has previously and repeatedly emphasized the importance of widespread childhood vaccination and the role of international institutions in eradicating polio in Afghanistan.

These campaigns are said to be vital to achieving the goal of polio eradication in Afghanistan, and vaccination coverage must be extended to all children.
