Naseer Ahmad Faiq, the acting head of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), says the country’s natural resources and revenues generated from its mines must serve the people and be managed based on transparency, accountability, and national interests.
Faiq wrote on his X account on Thursday, July 9, 2026, that the fundamental question is where the revenues generated from this national wealth are being spent and whether transparency, accountability, and independent oversight exist over Afghanistan’s mining revenues.
He also said that Afghanistan remains dependent on humanitarian assistance from the international community while millions of citizens, including women, young people, and persons with disabilities, are facing poverty, unemployment, and despair.
Faiq added that many citizens of the country have been forced to migrate due to the current circumstances, while at the same time, crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and mysterious killings have also increased.
He stressed that Afghanistan’s natural resources belong to all people of the country and that their management must be carried out in a way that ensures national interests, rather than group or personal interests.
