The Taliban have exploited school students in Badakhshan to destroy opium poppy crops.

Video footage circulated on social media on Saturday, May 2, showing the Taliban using schoolchildren to destroy opium poppy crops.

The videos do not specify which district the footage is from; however, they show more than 10 schoolchildren destroying a poppy field with their hands.

The Taliban have launched a campaign to eradicate opium poppy cultivation in Badakhshan.

Previously, videos had also appeared on social media showing the Taliban using animals to destroy poppy fields.

Sources say that so far, nearly 300 sheep have died after eating dried poppy plants following pesticide spraying.
