The World Health Organization (WHO), offering recommendations on food safety, says simple steps can prevent botulism and complications resulting from the disease.
The organization wrote on its X page on Thursday, September 24, that observing food safety principles protects people’s lives.
The United Nations agency added that hands and cooking utensils should be thoroughly washed, milk should be fully boiled, and meat should be properly cooked to ensure food safety.
The organization also recommended checking jars and canned food containers before use and storing food in a clean and cool place.
The World Health Organization had previously warned about the risk of botulism from consuming spoiled or improperly stored food.
The World Health Organization said that “stomach pain, vomiting, weakness, blurred vision, difficulty speaking, and difficulty breathing” are among the symptoms of the disease.
